Topic: Denver Water’s Collection System

Speaker: Nathan Elder

Please join us for a great meeting on our most valuable resource.  Denver Water is responsible for the collection, storage, quality control, and distribution of drinking water to 1.5 million people, nearly one-fourth of all Coloradoans. Almost all of its water comes from mountain snowmelt captured in a series of reservoirs and distributed via rivers, canals, and tunnels. The talk will focus on the collection system and how an unpredictable resource is managed and delivered to water treatment plants while being stewards of the environment and mitigating aging infrastructure.

Nathan Elder is the Manager of the Raw Water Supply Section at Denver Water. His section is responsible for the planning and accounting of raw water in Denver Water’s collection system. He has ten years of experience working in the Raw Water Supply section. Prior to Denver Water, Nathan spent 6 years with the National Park Service working in the Rocky Mountain Inventory and Monitoring Network facilitating the use of ecological and spatial data to inform resource management decisions. He holds a Bachelors of Science from Colorado State University in Watershed Science.
