Virtual Professional Development Meeting

Thursday. November 12th, 2020

6:30 - 8:30 pm MST

Cost: Free

Topic: Production with a Purpose

Speaker: Andrew Magel

It is time again for us to work on our Triple Bottom Line (see ASCM Certification for reference).

Andy is going to talk about the Mile High WorkShop (MHW).  Its mission is to create employment opportunities and provide job training for members of our community seeking to rebuild from addictions, homelessness, and incarceration. Their vision is to grow into one of the preeminent social enterprises in the Denver area. Its values are to grow every day, be responsible to each other, act with integrity, cultivate a community of peace and have excellence in their work.

The MHW partners with business as a contract production partner in kitting, assembly, sewing, and other basic manufacturing processes. The work supports the partner organization through the execution of the activities and provides a deep way for companies to impact the community.

Participants learn job skills in basic manufacturing, kitting, and distribution while simultaneously learning soft skills that directly impact their ability to obtain/maintain employment such as punctuality, coworker conflict resolution, interviewing techniques, job performance, resume preparation, etc.

Most participants exit the program within 3-6 months, with MHW offering employment placement assistance. MHW also provides aftercare services for two years to help graduates retain their employment and housing and—when applicable—remain sober.

Andy Magel founded the MWH in early 2014 after managing other social enterprise projects in Denver. He also has experience in service-based non-profits and business management in the for-profit sector. Andy hopes to see Denver lead the way in creative, employment-focused community development, and he’s humbled to play a role in that growth.

He is a graduate of Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon, and a member of the American Enterprise Institute’s Leadership Network. Andy loves being a dad to his son and enjoys time in Colorado’s mountains and rivers as well as a good cup of coffee. He’s pretty laid back, sort of funny, and a seven on the enneagram.
