Primary Purpose of Position:

Manages the sourcing function as directed.

Essential Functions:

  • Arranges the timely and cost competitive procurement of a broad, highly mixed and/or technical category of materials, equipment, parts, services, supplies, and other items, that may involve complex consideration, engineering changes, and limited sources of supply. May include international joint ventures and licensees.
  • May establish inventory status with plant production control department. Controls and maintains inventory levels to meet established management guidelines.
  • May administer and direct projected production schedules with group manufacturing staff and plant production control departments.
  • Directs and guides the performance of the buyer(s), coordinator(s), and administrative staff to assure on schedule, timely completion of work relative to quality, service, volume, and competitive selection process.
  • Directs and guides the development and investigation of new vendors. Recommends use of alternate sources to protect supply, and recommends discontinuance of sources not deemed reliable or not in conformance with company quality requirements.
  • Provides requests for quotes and bid invitations. Solicits bids from vendors. Evaluates proposals and bids and coordinates selection process.
  • Analyzes, constructs, and evaluates contracts.
  • Develops pricing strategies and action plans. Negotiates price, terms, and delivery schedules for materials, equipment, parts, services, and supplies.
  • Directs the input of purchase order information into the group procurement system. Reviews orders and forecasts to ensure compliance with supply agreements and rebate conditions.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the company’s systems which supports the proper receipt of purchased material to ensures the proper payment of all material receipts.
  • Directs and maintains required selected purchasing records and reports.
  • Administers the coordination of orders, specifications, drawings, contracts, and amendments with project managers and suppliers. Directs the follow-up process to assure timely procurement and on schedule delivery of assigned items at a minimum cost, consistent with required specifications, quality, and volume.
  • Facilitates meetings for company personnel and vendors and acts as liaison to negotiate and make decisions relative to quality, service, pricing, and delivery.
  • Directs, creates, maintains, and provides regular forecasts, mark-to-market updates, monthly volume commitment reports and provides data as needed for quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensures purchasing follow-up activities for test material for the technical service and research and development departments. Recommends and coordinates alternative sources of supply.
  • Maintains communication with Ball’s manufacturing plants to arrange blanket and national contracts for common tooling and materials.
  • Develops and implements delivery of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Establishes and develops relationships with key external suppliers.

For our Denver corporate headquarters, we are seeking a Senior Supply Planner. The Senior Supply Planner is responsible for generating an efficient master production schedule for assigned manufacturing locations by review planning systems, managing finished goods planning parameters and distribution plan. Successfully support new product launches, maintain targeted inventory levels, minimizing out of stocks and obsolete inventories. Exceed company customer service goal of 99.0%, by coordinating sales order fulfillment, directly or through third party distribution network. Ensure maximum utilization of internal warehouse space, manufacturing capacity and inventory, by collaborating cross functionally with Demand Planning, Sales, Customer Service, Plant Materials Management, Transportation, Quality Assurance and Quality Execution.


We Ask You to:

Supply Planning and Scheduling Systems and Execution

  • Generates efficient master production schedule and maintains highly accurate 12-week production forecast.
  • Works with Plant Materials Management to prepare weekly production schedule, which meets customer demand, maximizes plant production efficiency, and minimizes freight costs.
  • Using all Planning systems, managing finished goods planning parameters, review of forecasts, establish safety stock levels, determine optimal production run sizes and adhere to defined lead times for products supplied from responsible locations.
  • Understands number of budgeted / actual operating days and the available supplies of milk, ensuring customer order can be fulfilled within defined service requirements and all milk in consumed into optimal finished goods materials, to minimize obsolescence or out of age inventory.

Inventory Disposition and Sales Forecast

  • Reviews and analyzes customer orders and performs various customer service activities.
  • Provides information and updates to other parts of the organization to enable good business decision making and ensure seamless execution to the customer.
  • Reviews and measures daily and weekly production attainment and inventory availability while working with Plant Production, Plant QE and Corporate QA, to ensure timely review, release and / or disposition of production and inventory.
  • Collaborates with Sales, Customer Service, and Demand Planning to analyze sales forecasts, resolve action items, and maintain new, aging and obsolete inventory items

Supply Chain Category Manager – Outsourced Assemblies

The Supply Chain Category Manager – Outsourced Assemblies position represents an exciting opportunity that will help enable Ball Aerospace to GO BEYOND by developing technology to help you see farther, stay safer, and preserve our planet and meet some of the nation’s most critical missions, at home and on the outskirts of our solar system. The primary role of the Category Manager is to be fully accountable for the management, supervisory oversight, training, and performance of a team of commodity specialists and commodity managers who are responsible for category specific agreements. The Category Manager will be responsible for developing and driving execution to a strategic sourcing plan to address capacity, capability and performance requirements across the category. The Category Manager will establish and maintain positive supplier relationships and oversee execution of the contractual agreements / purchase orders within their specific category. This position is responsible for early and ongoing engagement with internal stakeholders and external suppliers from pursuit through product delivery. This position will serve as the primary interface to Engineering, Mission Assurance, Supply Chain senior management and external suppliers for sourcing strategy, BOE development, RFP issuance, proposal evaluations, negotiations, and management of the supply base throughout the acquisition life cycle. This position reports directly to the Ball Aerospace Business Area Manager – Procurement & Category Management.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide strategic direction, leadership guidance and functional expertise to a small-moderate sized team of supplier management professionals accountable for a low-moderate volume of sales annually associated with the Printed Wiring Board, Printed Wiring Assemblies, Cable & Harness Assemblies, Electronic Assemblies and High Temp Ceramics fabrication category, outsourced materials and services.
  • As an authorized signatory for BATC, be accountable for the successful performance of a small – moderate sized team of commodity specialists and commodity managers responsible for writing, negotiating and managing category specific procurements.
  • Develop and orchestrate execution of strategic supplier category management plans to address requirements across a category/commodity (together with Engineering, Mission Assurance and Supply Chain Program Leads); the category manager is responsible for ensuring categories of products are managed for cost optimization, governance and risk mitigation, while delivering finished goods or services on time with a high degree of quality
  • Develop long term partnerships / agreements with key suppliers, and leverage relationships to gain cost, schedule and terms advantages for Ball Aerospace and the category supplier partners.
  • Work with SC senior management and program / proposal management to determine staffing requirements, develop proposal BoEs and align staff as required to support programs, new business activities, or other activities, as required.
  • Responsible for supplier sourcing, solicit and lead supplier proposal evaluations; employ value analysis techniques to analyze price, technical capability and financial viability, investigate supplier’s ability/capability to perform within the proposed cost, technical, and schedule parameters
  • Develop procurement management plans in support of critical procurements to mitigate cost, technical, quality and schedule risk (in partnership with Program, Supply Chain Quality and Quality team members internal to BATC)
  • Ensure suppliers are selected and managed per requirements and compliance of the company in a timely and cost-effective manner; develop and maintain risk & opportunity plans to meet program objectives and drive supplier accountability to cost, schedule and quality requirements.
  • Act as lead for conflict resolution of supplier issues, developing, educating and mentoring team members in the same, and measuring results for broader use across the supply chain team and/or company.
  • Responsible for the team’s adherence to process, success criteria and metrics, and be proactive and reactive for company audits
  • Responsible for subcontract / procurement managers talent development, training, and supervision
  • Gather, track and analyze productivity and performance results, develop recommendations, and communicate findings to Supply Chain leadership and internal stakeholders on an ongoing and as-needed basis
  • Effect continuous improvement of supplier selection, negotiation, monitoring, tracking, measuring, and reporting processes per company policies
  • Identify strategies and opportunities to reduce cost, improve efficiency and manage supplier risk through strategic and targeted negotiations; contribute to program risk and opportunity management
  • Own the management of supplier contractual performance throughout the procurement lifecycle; resolve supplier performance issues and any internal Ball issues that affect supplier performance.
  • Responsible for generation of the contractual documentation, ensuring all supplier management actions are performed within Ball Aerospace procedures and compliant to government regulations.
  • Perform all supplier administrative functions including but not limited to, review of Prime contract and generation of appropriate flow downs, change management & generation of contract modifications, management of financials and invoices; management of supplier deliverables, and generally ensuring supplier compliance and performance to contract.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

What You’ll Need:

  • BS/BA in related field plus 10 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Professional, demonstrated experience as a supervisory Supply Chain Manager for large-scale (>$10M), proposals or programs in support of DoD and/or NASA customers.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contracts, subcontracts and/or procurement management; specifically, as the contract writer, negotiator and manager.
  • Professional experience and demonstrated expertise in US Government Program Proposal Development, US Government purchasing / acquisitions, and material handling.
  • A working knowledge of standard tools, KPIs and processes required to support and measure the value-add of the Supply Chain purchasing organization (i.e. MRP, Invoicing, Forecasting, compliance, etc.).
  • Ability to act in a leadership capacity on Supplier Management Team, provide vision to the Team, guide the Team to higher levels of achievement, and effectively deliver results by practicing leadership through influence.
  • Ability to effectively relate with others, build a high performing team and operate fully as a team member.
  • Strong and proven leadership skills; experience in direct supervisory and ability to effect positive results in a highly matrixed environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Prior experience as a Category / Commodity manager, procurement supervisor or subcontracts management supervisor within the Aerospace & Defense industry preferred.

  • Majority of career spent in Aerospace & Defense Supply Chain organization; 25% or more of career with Tier 1 Defense Contractor (i.e. Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, etc.) preferred.

  • Graduate in Business, Finance, Supply Chain or Computer Science. Master’s degree is desirable.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a multi-national manufacturing company with strong functional expertise in supply chain management, demand planning, sales and operations, forecasting and order management.
  • At least 8 years of direct experience with Oracle EBS R12 Supply Chain modules and strong functional knowledge in VCP, ASCP and Oracle demand cloud.
  • Candidate should have at least 2 full life cycle implementation experience with hands-on configuration, implementation and support using Oracle EBS in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong techno-functional knowledge in Oracle EBS modules like Manufacturing, SCM, Value Chain Planning, Closed Loop Supply Chain Management (CLSCM), Purchasing, Inventory, Cost Management, WIP, BOM, and ASCP.
  • Functional expertise in Integrated Business Planning (IBP), Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), Available to Promise (ATP) and closed loop supply chain ng related tools, processes and its modelling and implementation in a dynamic manufacturing company.
  • Knowledge and experience in supply chain execution processes such as manufacturing and order management.
  • Experience in supporting supply chain management and execution processes in manufacturing environment. Ability to interact with cross functions from planning, commercial and IT.
  • Knowledgeable in supply chain methodologies, related KPIs and reporting.

The best Production Planners are multi-functional as they manage and plan the schedule of a fleet of Laser Machines.  They have the ability to work with all functions including engineering, manufacturing, accounting, and sales in coordinating all aspects of the product throughout the completion of a PO. This includes managing workflow of all process steps and communicating with the proper channel to keep each PO line item on track for delivery. Their greatest skill is having the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all departments. Time management and urgency are a critical for success in this position..



As part of the Healthcare unit of 3D Systems, the Littleton facility acts as a service bureau to enable customers without the expertise, capital, or desire to additively manufacture their products. We are experts in digital workflows, patient-specific devices, and five different kinds of 3D printing. The Manufacturing department serves both the Virtual Surgical Planning as well as the Advanced Manufacturing product lines with plastic and metal additive manufacturing.


Performance Objectives

  1. Plan volume orders: Plan all volume orders within one business day of receipt. Account for printing, post processing, QC, and any outside processes required to produce the product. Utilize the established planning methodology and follow the work instruction for planning. Send a PO confirmation to the customer and communicate delivery dates for all line items. Adjust schedules as customer priorities and machine availability changes and communicate changes to build preparation personnel and the production floor.


  1. Communicate Order Status to Customers: Send schedule updates to the customer regularly, and communicate immediately when technical issues affect the schedule. Answer questions regarding forecast and capacity as needed.


  1. Execute Contract Review: Review released documentation, pricing, revisions and ability to meet requirements. Document each PO that is received and processed through the contract review process to ensure the smoothest manufacturing process possible.


  1. Manage Post Processing and Outside Supplier Schedule: Track and manage the lead times of all post processing and outside supplier steps. It is crucial to consistently communicate with the managers of each process if these lead times slip from the expected timeline.  At that time create and disperse a priority plan to all affected groups.  Volume Planner will notify Supply chain of any time delays and participate in resolution as necessary.


  1. Manage Shipment Schedule: Manage shipment schedule and communicate shipments with Quality to ensure product delivery meets the customer’s expectations.


  1. Report Revenue: Report revenue generation monthly to the Production Planning Supervisor. This is to ensure products stay on track for quarterly revenue goals and that the proper resources are allocated to hit those goals.


  1. Improve Business Processes: Work to improve processes with the knowledge gained while tracking product. Volume Planner will edit and release these improvements into the QMS.


  1. Deliver On time: On time delivery is an important metric to help understand the efficiency of the process flow and estimation of lead-time. This metric should be tracked on a quarterly basis.





The successful candidate should to have at least 1-3 years background in manufacturing, preferably as a planner or master scheduler. Understanding of the manufacturing process and practices is necessary.  Previous customer service experience is helpful.
