Professional Development Meeting

April 11th, 2018

Topic: "Modernizing the Warehouse (End of Windows Mobile)"

Speaker: Kevin Lollock

Inverness Hotel

Times are changing… Users of rugged mobile computers are demanding that business applications work like their personal applications. Businesses are encountering challenges that  elevate the need for improving business application user interfaces. New workers are entering our workforce with new/modern technology expectations that require greater training time to familiarize them on legacy technology. Our customers are placing new demands on us all by expecting suppliers to utilize modern applications and processes to drive down supply chain costs. On top of all that, new technology is enabling new business models that are changing the business landscape. How does one get ‘in the know’ on all these changes?

We will explore not only the underlying move to modern mobile devices and the impact to the supply chain with Windows sunsetting Mobile 6.5 and CE in 2020, but we will also explore how modernizing legacy applications not only provides improved worker and customer experiences, but also presents opportunities to improve your processes and workflows, further increasing productivity and reducing costs. The PDM will provide a perspective on the rugged OS landscape and how recent changes are impacting the market and also look at how advances in user interface technology – be it terminal emulation, web, and touch, now enable application platforms with a modern user interface while at the same time minimizing impact to the underlying legacy back-end application protocols and code.

Kevin Lollock, based in Lincolnshire Illinois, is a Regional Product Manager and Systems Engineer Manager with Zebra Technologies. Kevin has made a career of Enterprise Mobility for the last 30 years. When not on the road, staring at the screen of a mobile device, or working closely with his team of specialists, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
