POSITION PURPOSE

 Buyer II is responsible for working with suppliers and internal customers to assure a continuous supply of defect-free materials at the lowest total cost of ownership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Develop Requests for Proposals (RFP), specifications, long term agreement and Blanket Orders for corporate products and services.
  • Negotiate best overall terms and conditions under competitive and single source conditions while maintaining good supplier relations.
  • Negotiate and coordinate the procurement of material and services necessary to support the manufacturing schedule, taking into consideration the objectives of pricing, quality, lead time and inventory control.
  • Manage activities between internal departments and the suppliers who produce the goods and services necessary to support the manufacturing schedule.
  • Issues and approves purchase orders as required to procure production related material as well as items required for maintenance, repair, facility operations, engineering and MRO.
  • Negotiates material pricing levels to support budget and standard cost goals.
  • Ensures material delivery requirements to support production.
  • Coordinates supplier returns and replacement of non-conforming material.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree and 3 + years of experience preferred or equivalent experience                        

Required Knowledge: Knowledge of production and manufacturing operations required (Inventory control, material movement, Lean, trend analysis, quality control, RMA, KANBAN, sub-contract manufacturing)

Skills/abilities:  Advanced experience in Microsoft Office Suite, experience in report writing, Experience in JD Edwards manufacturing software preferred and APICS Certified

The Project Specialist will be able to get a comprehensive view of the company due to the cross-functional nature of the position. The job will be appealing to a creative mind. All opportunities for improvement within the Planning Department but also departments with which planning interfaces can be explored. Since projects will be led by the person in this role, leadership qualities can be enhanced and explored.
 
Summary of Position:
The Planning Project Specialist functions as a coordinator for a variety of objectives and initiatives in the planning department. This is a cross-functional position which will require interfacing with all members of the planning team as well as multiple departments and management levels within the company. Primary responsibilities:

 Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Commodity Manager- Packaging.

 Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manage up to $55M in annual packaging spend.
  • Support three JM business units, to include reporting out monthly to key stakeholders of each business.
  • Develop, engineer, test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet: functional requirements, packaging machine parameters, cost targets, and shipping requirements.
  • Create trial and test reports.
  • Identify and initiate cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical and cost reduction input to cross functional teams, while satisfying design requirements for manufacturing and marketing acceptance.
  • Demonstrate strategic and tactical decision-making ability using sound scientific principles and data.
  • Work effectively with plants, suppliers, and business stakeholders to strategically source packaging materials and manage the supplier qualification process. 
  • Initiate, develop and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Develop project timelines, scorecards and metrics to support meeting Supply Chain goals.
  • Lead contract negotiations and manage contract development.
  • Develop specifications.

 

Qualifications: 

  • BS in Packaging or Materials Science, supply chain knowledge and experience a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Packaging related field, experience with industrial packaging specifically polyethylene films and corrugated are preferred.
  • Outstanding technical competence in package design, material properties, and package testing
  • Negotiation skills and ability to manage supply base.
  • Excellent communication skills – oral, written and presentation. 
  • Self-motivated and highly team oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently in a fast paced environment.
  • Travel to JM manufacturing sites and supplier locations
  • Excellent Microsoft Office suite computer skills, SAP knowledge a plus.
  • Willing to relocate to Denver, Colorado Area

 JM is currently looking for a Senior Commodity Manger to support our corporate Supply Chain group.  This person would be responsible for leadership of strategy development and implementation for a portfolio of direct raw materials used in manufacturing finished products as well as contract manufacturing to add value to intermediate goods for future resale.  This includes managing supplier relationships and developing Supply Agreements to ensure JM maintains a competitive manufacturing cost position.   

 Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure uninterrupted and sustainable supply of raw materials and Value-Added Contract Manufacturing Services to JM facilities and Customers; conduct supplier evaluations and develop and implement sourcing strategy options for raw materials, contract manufacturing and services, and trading goods for resale; work cross functionally to establish supplier qualification strategy. 
  • Conducts supplier workshops to identify annual cost savings opportunities and manages the activities to achieve the established cost reduction goal to ensure JM maintains a competitive position; develop and implement cost reduction projects, establishes and maintains monthly scorecard metrics and updates that are then presented to JM senior leadership. 
  • This position will be a liaison with the Supply Chain Sourcing Leaders and JM business units.
  • Develop and solicit Requests for Quotes, analyze submissions, and form recommendation; negotiate required Supply Agreements and develop Executive Summaries for review with the appropriate executive leadership team members for approval; manage Supply Agreements for compliance and risk mitigation
  • Work with Directors of Operations from JM businesses to maximize value from raw material sourcing; provides input for Strategic influence and management of spend while directly supporting and building relationships with JM Functional Groups, Operations, Suppliers, and the Functional Group Leaders. (key stakeholders)
  • Using various data sources, understand, track and report on market dynamics for all key materials under their responsibility; apply statistical-based methodologies (including 6 sigma tools)
  • Decisions and actions have a significant impact on the short-term results and/or a moderate impact on long-term results affecting profitability, cost, service and/or operations. The impact of actions is significant to multiple departments or a plant
  • Accountable for own actions under limited supervision; may be responsible for conducting special projects with an important potential impact on a business segment or plant.

Requirements:

  • 4 year degree – Business Admin / Supply Chain / Chemical Engineering or related field minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience in product management, sourcing / commodity management with a major company

The Lead Planner is the lead/senior team member of a team that is responsible to plan, organize and control production of assigned products at contract manufacturers. 

 Responsibilities

 Team Lead

  • In partnership with the department manager, oversee the work of a small team of planners
  • Track and report on Key Performance Indicators

General Responsibilities

  • Allocate, plan and maintain appropriate inventory stocking levels
  • Quote, purchase, plan, organize and control production of assigned products from established, approved suppliers, adhering to the objectives of quality, delivery, and price in support of the operation
  • Coordinate and negotiate best price and delivery with supplier through understanding of sourcing, materials, logistics and manufacturing functions throughout the product's life cycle
  • Negotiate and place written purchase orders per authorized requisitions and/or plan based on historical and forecasted data
  • Prepare and update daily and weekly schedules in coordination with master schedule while ensuring all dates are transparent and accurate through all systems
  • Communicate production scheduling changes related to customer orders
  • Expedite delivery in past due or other abnormal delivery situations, and notify appropriate personnel accordingly
  • Monitor and review supplier performance, and make recommendations to the Production Manager relative to supplier development, resourcing, etc.
  • Maintain, monitor and track all assigned outside vendor inventories for components, sub-assemblies and finished goods
  • Monitor and confirm accuracy of assigned SKU's bill of materials through all systems
  • Maintain complete active component inventory at target levels through appropriate planning and inventory balancing across the network
  • Monitor "excess" component inventories - perform  root cause analysis of obsolescence and implementation of corrective/preventative action
  • Aid with inventories and cycle counts as requested
  • Ensure material availability dates are updated and accurate through all systems
  • Perform other inventory management transactions as needed (e.g., scrap)
  • Support cost reduction through effective and efficient capacity utilization
  • Adhere to all company policies and safety regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain or related field
  • At least four years of related experience, including experience in production planning.
  • At least one year of experience as a supervisor, lead or senior member of a team with responsibility to oversee the work of others
  • Must possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, with superior organization and follow-up skills.  Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Proactive mindset with a proven ability to problem-solve in alignment with company goals and standards
  • Must demonstrate strong PC and MS Office suite skills with an intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Excel and Access
