Qualified candidates must possess the following:           

 

  • A minimum of 1-2 years experience in a manufacturing purchasing environment or technical degree with understanding of manufacturing and/or engineering principles.
  • Purchasing experience with international markets
  • Ability to thoroughly understand manufacturing concepts.
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
  • Technical aptitude to read or learn to read engineering drawings is required.
  • Strong ability to plan, source, negotiate and make decisions.
  • Ability to ensure that production schedule requirements are met.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are a must.
  • Must have extensive computer knowledge.
  • Ability to identify and develop sources of supply that are capable of providing products and services consistent with Carefree’s requirements for service, total cost, quality and innovation.
  • Must also possess the ability to translate forecasting information into material requirements to ensure an adequate source of supply utilizing approved inventory levels.

 

In addition to possessing experience in and the ability to perform the duties outlined above, the qualified candidate will possess a Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering or other technical focus or a combination of education and experience.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Proactively manage the supply base for aluminum extrusions, fabrics and die-castings. 
  • Collaborate with Material Planning, Engineering, Manufacturing and other internal departments to proactively drive supplier selection, assessment, negotiations, new product introduction target dates, contract performance, supply base consolidations, quality improvements, cost reductions and other critical performance metrics.
  • Negotiate and complete contracts with strategic and preferred suppliers to maximum benefits and reduce risk of unintended costs of supply.
  • Ability to forecast commodity trends and fluctuations to anticipate potential cost pressures and adjust supplier management activities
  • Conduct analysis of data to create and maintain preferred supplier database.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, or a combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Supplier Manager or related field preferred

PURCHASING ENGINEER (INTERN)

 

Carefree of Colorado, a division of the Scott Fetzer Company and Berkshire Hathaway, is a manufacturer and supplier to the RV and Marine OEM and Aftermarket with a forty year history of quality and innovation.  We have created a career launching opportunity for a high energy, positive thinking recent Engineering graduate or current student intern, looking to start a career in the manufacturing field.

 

As a direct report to our Director of Materials, the duties and responsibilities of this position include:

 

  • Using Microsoft Excel and Friedman ERP software to plan, organize and purchase materials for manufacturing our products.
  • Using technical knowledge of components and their function to make appropriate sourcing and buying decisions
  • Using internet searches to research and locate sources of supply
  • Negotiating with sources of supply for best overall value
  • Interpreting suppliers manufacturing capabilities and technical strengths and applying them appropriately to our needs

 

Candidates must possess:

  • Recent degree in an Engineering discipline (or current student intern)
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing concepts. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; CAD skills a plus (especially SolidWorks)
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple and changing priorities.
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills.  Must be thorough, detail oriented, and possess strong analytical and technical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings especially tolerancing, material and manufacturing requirements.
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with suppliers, customers and all employee groups within the business.
